Work With Me
Hi there,
I'm Nicole Mills and I'm a portrait photographer in Rochester, Minnesota.
I'm relatively new to the world of photography, and am definitely still learning...more and more everyday (or so I like to think, anyway). Yes, I took a few photography classes back in college, but that was over 20 years ago, and way before digital cameras and Photoshop. The game has changed! Now, I'm busy learning, shooting, and editing in my spare time and because I love it so much, I decided to start offering my photography skills/services to others, so, here I am, tooting my own horn, asking you to work with me.
If I haven't lost you, keep reading!
My "real" job is Owner/Broker of Knowing Home Real Estate (Hey...if you need to buy or sell a home, let me know!). I've been a licensed Realtor since 2001. I also purchase, renovate and sell homes...when I can afford it. Of course, now that I have a two year old daughter...I can no longer afford it...and of course, no longer have the time. Anyway, having put renovating on hold at least until my daughter goes to school, I've been throwing myself in to photography (as luck would have it, I have an adorable, although squirmy live-in "model" to shoot anytime I please), and have discovered that I LOVE photographing children.
"Sit still, now look at me...Ok, smile!" Sadly, I do sometimes find myself saying this, although I know it rarely works, and definitely isn't the recipe for a great photo. More often than not, though, I try to make things fun and relaxing so that I can get some genuine smiles and laughs, because those make for the best photos of our children, right? It's great when they're looking right in to my lens, with a great big smile on their face...but sometimes, a better photo is one where I'm able to catch them simply doing what they do...having fun being a kid. So, if you want some relaxed, informal photos of you and your kids, I think I can help. If you want perfectly posed, every hair in place, everyone say “cheese” photos, I’m afraid I’m not your gal. I’ve tried taking those kinds of photos…and I just don’t have the knack.
My studio is the great outdoors, although if you have some great windows and natural light in your home and you want some pics taken there, let me know. I travel well.
Because I’m not a full-time, “professional,” (at least by my own standards) I don’t charge professional prices. When I make the leap from a “part-time, likes to think she’s getting good at this picture taking thing” to “Yep, she’s the bomb…as professional as it gets,” then I’ll raise my prices accordingly. Until then, I’d like to provide reasonably decent photographs for reasonably happy families…at reasonable prices. Doesn’t that sound reasonable?
If you’d like to work with me, please get in touch and we’ll make a plan. Thanks for stopping by.
Nicole Mills

Big Wheels Keep on Turnin'...
We ventured out in the heat to Eyota Days yesterday. Phoebe got to sit in a fire truck (she really liked it...trucking may be in her future), pet some goats, and played a few carnival games. The entire event was in the sun, so needless to say, we didn't stay for very long. Dairy Queen on the way home. Life is good.

Our last night in Holland
I had plans for a great photo shoot, our last night in Holland. Well, the winds were so strong, that the pier was closed, the red warning flags were out, and I was too scared to take my camera out of the bag because the sand was flying. So, we had to settle for a little beach area just inside the channel. Phoebe had a great time finding stones, and I got a few photographs of my girl, so it all worked out. We had a great week and, thankfully, we had the beach and the pool to beat this crazy heat we've been having.

4th of July in South Haven, Michigan
We took a trip to Michigan a few weeks ago to see family & friends. As luck would have it, two of my good friends (who happen to be sisters) were also back home visiting family. We all got to spend a day together, and of course, I got out my camera to help remember the day. Summer, Jillian, Garrett, Andrew & Kyle...
